I did pretty good this year. Got my first Barber half dollar (1900) and my first Two Cent coin (1864, Large Motto). The two center is in excellent condition, very little wear, but it does have some crud clinging to parts of the shield. I was pretty pleased with the Barber half and swore to be more careful with my digging once I saw the scratches I put on the front. It was seven inches down and on edge, so I was off by a few inches when I dug the initial plug. :o

Four of the Indian cents were in the same hole (1887,88,89,90). Found those just a few feet from where I turned up the 1865 indian cent and about ten feet from where the two cent coin was. Found those and some of the silver in the yard of a house built in 1840 in a small town just a few miles from where I live.

Also found four rings this year. Two sterling, one 10ct gold-filled wedding band and one 14ct gold wedding band.

This was a good season for finding Barber coins for me. Got the 1900 half, and 1893
quarter, 1896, 1901, 1905, 1909 and 1913 dimes.

Also got two Large Cents (1846, 1848), an Eagle 6-lever brass padlock, a New York Central System padlock (without hasp), an 1857 Bank of Upper Canada Half Penny token, and an aluminum Pontiac Silver Streak token.

One unusual find is a lead seal that shows an eagle holding two arrows, each has an arrowhead on both ends and has sharp angles, like they're crooked or broken. I know I read about that design, but it was many years ago and I can't remember what it was used for. The seal was in the front yard of the 1840 house. The eagle looks like a pre-civil war design, but I'm just guessing about that.

I got out as much as possible this year. Maybe if I spent more time on research I'd be able to increase my silver total. We had great weather for metal detecting here in western New York this year. I first got out at the end of March and finished up the season on 4 December. Just a few months until the snow melts, the ground thaws and I can get out to a few new sites. :D

Nice job on the finds. Always great to find Barbers. A couple half dollars in a year can be tough. Can't wait for 2010, but I'll be unable to hunt for a month or two I think.
