So, I've been doing some research on some interesting lost towns in my state. Going over various maps, historical books, etc trying to isolate where they were to have a lead for permission.
Came across a site that you can lookup historical post offices (among other things). This site is awesome! It also links to GoogleMaps, so you can get aerial shots, long/lat coords, etc. I don't think they're 100% accurate, but they definitely narrow down the area.
Hopefully this will help somebody:

Good deal! You can also get plat maps from any town hall ( at least around here) that are very old and are easy enough to scan ( Have them photo copy it for you). Most states Historical societies are publishing these online so... But find your local Historical Society they'll be totally enthused to help you!

Will the plat map show the full county.. or just the individual city?
Thanks!

I came across this also. Yes its a keeper for the research links. This was the only site which had the location of a specific Fort in my area I was looking for. I could not find it anywhere else, and it gave me the map location.

Yes, but unfortunately there are not that many out there for "public" use I'm a digitized map freak love em when I can apply them elsewhere but unfortunately you cant get Sanborns for everywhere.
