A friend of mine invited me to do a bit of detecting in his yard (early 1900's house in rural part of county). The yard had many areas where fill dirt was hauled in to build it up and there was quite a bit of trash due to several home businesses in the past. I was reluctant to dig all the signals that I got (there were many shallow signals) so I only dug the strongest, most likely to be coin signals. I was surprised that I didn't find a single wheat penny or any silver (must have been detected some time in the past while it was vacant). I only detected the front yard and found 10 memorial cents, 3 dimes, 2 quarters, 1 toy truck, 1 candle snuffer?, 1 piece of costume jewelry, 1 watch, a couple of interesting unidentifed objects, and a bag full of trash. It was a fun couple of hours and he invited me back to try again ... next time there will be a lot less trash to work through and I will dig more of those iffy signals that I left on the last trip.

hmm.. those are interesting finds. I would say your chances are good to find something, just wasn't in the cards that day. Do you have a smaller coil for that Garrett? Might be worth a slow re-work with a smaller coil.

It also sounds like the good stuff is going to be deep.. I'd work on those iffy signals for sure next time. It's nice that you cleaned it up a bit this time.. it will definitely help you out on the next pass.

Good luck!

I use the stock 8.5" coil that came with the machine. I also have a 10x14 power DD coil that that came with my detector that I very seldom use. I have decided that the next purchase I make for my detector will be the 4.5" Crossfire II sniper coil for hunting trashy areas and tight/confined spaces.
