Went on a short hunt.. not a bad day...
1898 V-Nickel
1905 V-Nickel
1907 Indian Head
Indian head was on edge and hugging a root. That corrosion is the part exposed outside of the root. I also was working with the X-5 coil by SunRay, since the spot was pretty trashy. Both Vs were sniffed out with the X-5. It's a good coil, but I need lots of work with it.
Noticed switching to the X-5 that pinpoint signal was hotter than with the SunRay 8". Not sure if this is typical, but targets that would sound 'normal' depth, would sound close to the surface. Both of the V-Nickels fooled me. I figured they were less than 3" down or so, and they were both around 5". Interesting that the coil would change the signal strength on pinpoint.. but wanted to point that out.
It was cool to break the 1900 barrier again today, and out of all the V-Nickels I've found in my lifetime.. this is the only one that is pre-1900.
Thanks for lookin'
